DFM Review — Free, Straight Talk
Your mold ejects badly, or you want to save material? Send us the drawing. Our engineers will tell you straight if the mold, the material, or the process can be improved — before you spend on tooling.
Engineering reply within 24 hours: can it be made, and can it be made better?
What our DFM review covers
A practical DFM pass checks the same things on every drawing — and tells you, specifically, where cost can come out without touching function:
- Tolerances & datums — functionally justified, and holdable and measurable on the floor that runs the part?
- Radii & corners — can the cutter reach, or will a corner need wire EDM or finishing?
- Wall thickness & rigidity — will the part hold shape through machining and shipping?
- Material & certificates — available and certifiable, and does the function justify the grade?
- Secondary operations — can any feature be redesigned into the primary process?
For the deeper mechanics of how DFM removes cost, see our guide: What Is DFM and Why It Saves Money.
What you receive
Process route recommendation
CNC machining vs. injection molding vs. hybrid — with the reasoning, not just a price. Because we run both in-house, the “machining or molding?” call comes from engineers who can actually execute either route.
Cost & risk breakdown
Cost comparison across routes at your target quantity, plus a risk list — thin walls, deep pockets, tolerance stack-up, tool access, material behavior — and a tolerance audit showing which callouts drive cost and which can relax.
Marked-up drawings
Specific, actionable change recommendations on your drawing, so the improvements are unambiguous and ready for your team to act on.
Full accuracy picture
We machine to ±0.002 mm repeatability and hold ±0.01 mm across parts up to 6 m on our gantry — so the review reflects what our own floors can actually hold and measure.
How it works & pricing
Free first impression: send us your drawing and within 2 business days you receive a brief note — process direction plus the top 2–3 risks — at no cost. The full review above is a paid deliverable, and it is credited against your first production order. Your risk on the analysis is effectively zero; the value shows up in the order.
Why us: most shops only sell one process, so their DFM defaults to it. We run CNC (6 m gantry, ±0.002 mm repeatability) and injection molding under one roof, so the recommendation is about your part — not our capacity.
Frequently asked questions
Q: What does a DFM review actually check?
A: The same handful of things on every drawing — tolerances and datums, radii and corners, wall thickness and rigidity, material and certificates, and features that would force a secondary operation. The point is to flag where cost can come out without changing function.
Q: Is the DFM review really free?
A: The first impression is free. We come back with a short, specific note and a quote — you are not paying to be told whether the part is makeable. The deeper review is paid and credited against your first order.
Q: What do I need to send?
A: The drawing if you have one, or a sketch and a few words. Telling us the intended material and the environment the part will see lets us check the grade choice against the function.
